I Made This started with my first dog, Kya, a pitbull. Before she came into my life, I wasn't too keen on dogs, especially pitbulls. Kya had the stereotypical pitbull face and build, the kind that made people feel intimidated before they ever got to know her.
But Kya changed everything.
Despite coming from a dog fighting ring in Florida, all she really wanted was love and pets. She changed my views on pitbulls, and she changed the views of many other people, too. She taught me that there's so much more to a dog than what people assume just by looking at them.
Back then, I didn't have the means to make homemade treats for Kya the way I wanted to. The idea stayed with me, though.
I adopted Lilith, another pittie, in February 2022. Her adorable face makes people want to scoop her up and shower her with kisses, but she has her own challenges and boundaries. Because of her sensory needs, too much touch and stimulation can overwhelm her, so giving her space is an imporrtant part of caring for her.
Lilith also has a bilateral cleft lip, which can make eating certain foods more challenging. She also has adipsia, a neurological condition that affects her drive to drink. I pay close attention to what goes into her treats, including keep salt low or leaving it out.
Keeping Lilith hydrated takes a little extra creativity, too. She gets moisture through her meals, snacks and sometimes even her treats. I started making treats specifically for her, finding ways to give her things she enjoys while keeping her individual needs in mind.
And Lilith has quite the treat collection! Along with baked treats, she enjoys homemade frozen treats, dog-friendly ice cream, and smoothie-style blends.
The only problem? One batch makes a LOT of treats, and Lilith certainly doesn't need to eat every last one herself! So I started sharing the extras with friends, and somthing I made for my own dog began growing into something I could share with othe dog families.
In October 2025, we bag sharing our journey to the public.
Today, I Made This offers our frist two publicly available dog-treat flavors: Banana and Pumpkin. There's room to grow, but it all comes back to where we started.
Kya planted the seed. Lilith helped bring the idea to life. Both girls are a HUGE part of this business, and I'm greatful to have had them both in my life.
Thanks for being part of our journey!
